Designs strategies that utilize cognitive biases and heuristics to achieve desired outcomes, such as increasing homeowner engagement, promoting understanding of mitigation effectiveness, or improving building material literacy.
Research and data analysis:
Conducting research on persona behavior, analyzing large datasets to identify patterns and cognitive biases that influence decision-making.
Designing behavioral interventions:
Creating and implementing strategies that leverage behavioral insights to nudge people towards desired actions, like framing information in specific ways, using default options, or providing timely reminders.
A/B testing and experimentation:
Designing and running controlled experiments to test the effectiveness of behavioral interventions and measure their impact on key metrics.
Consulting and advising:
Providing expert advice to colleagues on how to apply behavioral economics to solve specific problems.
Communication and collaboration:
Communicating complex behavioral insights to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate behavioral design into projects.
Required skills for an applied behavioral economist:Strong understanding of behavioral economics theory: Familiarity with cognitive biases, heuristics, decision-making frameworks, and relevant psychological concepts
Quantitative analysis skills: Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualization, and experimental design
Research methodology: Ability to design and conduct research studies to gather relevant data
Communication and presentation skills: Effectively conveying complex behavioral insights to diverse audiences
Problem-solving and critical thinking: Identifying key behavioral factors influencing decision-making and developing practical solutions
Collaboration in a matrixed work environment: Effectively working in project teams that span multiple departments at IBHS and with partner organizations.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master's Degree Required, PhD in Behavioral Economics is preferred along with at least 3 years in the field applying behavioral economics to real world problems and measuring the results
