Job Description

SUMMARY:

The role of the Senior Exploration Geologist is to design and execute safe, reliable, and effective exploration projects in the mountains of North America in order to discover large, long-life, high-quality Rare Earth deposits, which will grow shareholder value. The position is essential to the success of field exploration and geological project activities. The role works closely with the Principal Geologist, who is actively working on the generation of new exploration projects. The role is also responsible for gaining access and approvals for undertaking the whole range of exploration activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Undertake Field Exploration encompassing:

  • The efficient (on or under budget) design and implementation of appropriate exploration programs as per the relevant EEPs. This includes geophysical, geochemical and geological programs, as well as drilling and trenching.
  • Ensure the highest standards of control and assurance are applied to sample collection, storage, analysis, data processing, and transfer.
  • Undertake appropriate mineralogical studies to develop an understanding of mineral zones and characteristics within regions, districts and deposits. This recognizes the critical nature of mineral species for the potential of deposits to be viable.
  • Creation of geological sections, plans and reports.
  • Generation of geological models for regions, districts and deposits, with output in the form of Technical Reports.

Demonstrate a strong focus on Health, Safety and the Environment by:

  • Complying with company Environmental Health and Safety Policy and having an understanding of and applying the 13 EHS Standards.
  • Actively promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contract personnel.
  • Reporting all personal injuries and incidents and assisting with investigations.
  • Actively supporting and participating in safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Ensuring consistent application of company’s hazard ID and risk management systems.
  • Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and the safety of others whilst protecting the environment. Ensure all environmental incidents and accidents are reported, fully investigated with actions taken to prevent re-occurrence.

Contribute to target generation through:

  • the generation and maintenance of geological thinking in regard to geological and prospectivity models we are working with.
  • Designing and executing exploration programs testing exploration targets in selected regions. This includes Exploration Expenditure Proposals (EEPs) and EEP closure reports.

Other responsibilities:

  • Scoping and review of contracts for specialist services
  • Submission of internal reports on time and to standard.
  • Technical reporting on exploration work completed;
  • the development and motivation of new projects; the review of projects submitted to company from external agents; and the peer review of internal projects developed by colleagues
  • Supervision of work on exploration sites, ensuring staff and contractors deliver their work safely and to the required standard.
  • The effective application of stakeholder policies to ensure a sustainable future for exploration and future projects and operations

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A BS degree in Geology or the Earth Sciences.
  • At least 5 years of experience in exploration, projects or operations.
  • A valid driver license.
  • Competency in the application of GIS, standard Microsoft software packages, 3D mining and exploration software (Micromine and/or Datamine).
  • First Aid and other safety-related training.
  • Four Wheel Driving Training.
  • Geological Understanding: A knowledge of structural and igneous geology is required to enable the development of a comprehensive understanding of Rare Earth mineralizing systems.
  • Operating Capability: The ability to work safely and effectively in the mountainous regions of North America.
  • Independent Operator: The ability to operate in relative isolation without constant oversight.
  • Data: The ability to collect, process and manipulate data, assess its quality, and integrate it into geological models and concepts using a range of geological and mining packages.
  • Supervisor: Capacity to supervise effectively a range of contractor and staff personalities, and stakeholders.
  • Economic Evaluation: The ability to work with other arms of the comapny in the advancement of projects to economic viability.
