Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Criminal Defense Legal Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will support our attorneys in delivering high-quality legal services by managing administrative tasks, conducting research, and assisting with case preparation.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, including motions, briefs, and discovery requests.

• Conduct legal research and gather relevant case law, statutes, and evidence.

• Manage client communications, including scheduling appointments and providing case updates.

• Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are accurate and up-to-date.

• Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, and other parties to schedule hearings and depositions.

• Prepare and file court documents in compliance with jurisdictional requirements.

• Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and coordinating witnesses.

• Perform administrative tasks such as calendaring deadlines, billing, and managing office correspondence.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal administration, or a related field (preferred but not required).

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably in criminal defense.

• Strong understanding of criminal law procedures and terminology.

• Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.

• Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Team player with a proactive attitude and strong work ethic.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with e-filing systems and court procedures.

• Familiarity with criminal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).

• Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus but not required.
