We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Criminal Defense Legal Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will support our attorneys in delivering high-quality legal services by managing administrative tasks, conducting research, and assisting with case preparation.
Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, including motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
Conduct legal research and gather relevant case law, statutes, and evidence.
Manage client communications, including scheduling appointments and providing case updates.
Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are accurate and up-to-date.
Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, and other parties to schedule hearings and depositions.
Prepare and file court documents in compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and coordinating witnesses.
Perform administrative tasks such as calendaring deadlines, billing, and managing office correspondence.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, legal administration, or a related field (preferred but not required).
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably in criminal defense.
Strong understanding of criminal law procedures and terminology.
Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Team player with a proactive attitude and strong work ethic.
Experience with e-filing systems and court procedures.
Familiarity with criminal case management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus but not required.
