Job Description

Position Summary:

Consists of, but not limited to, being responsible for sales of concrete in a highly competitive market. Maintain positive relationships with all customers. Work closely with the Vice President to ensure maximum market penetration at the best possible price, making every effort to develop all new markets and customers as possible. Assist customers in making the best selection of materials for each situation. Maintain contact with operations as to material availability and keep them informed of special product needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Targeting and acquiring new accounts/projects by identifying new customers within the ready-mix industry. The position requires cold calling contractor’s office and job sites
  • Building relationships with customers, vendors, state agencies, and the community
  • Strengthen and grow existing customer relationships
  • Responsible for identifying, working with, and tracking projects in the early stage of development through completion
  • Work to resolve customer requests and complaints
  • Effectively manage projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Be knowledgeable of ready-mix concrete, concrete construction, and concrete-related products and services
  • Maintain ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I Certification
  • Need to read and understand concrete specifications
  • Assist customers and quality control to provide required mix design submittals
  • Effectively communicate between departments, including customer service, dispatch, accounting, quality control, and operations
  • Effectively communicate with operating personnel to ensure plants are meeting customer needs and that proper inventory levels, particularly key products, are sufficiently maintained
  • Assist accounts receivables with collections
  • Compile detailed competitive industry information
  • Effectively document duties including but not limited to weekly call reports, industry equipment counts, market information, and growth opportunities
  • Mix of construction site and office duties and responsibilities
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by management
  • Attend industry-related events and participate in trade associations, Chambers of Commerce, and local economic development groups
  • Share expertise and experience with other sales team members
  • Lead and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety policies
  • Coordinate safe job site accessibility between customers, dispatch, and drivers
  • Attend and conduct safety meetings


Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the ready-mix industry or related construction trades (Preferred).
  • Proven track record of reliability.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Demonstrable effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Basic proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a driving record that meets company safety standards.
  • English is an essential function of a job however bilingual is a plus.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)


Physical Requirements and Environmental Demands:

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • Exerting 50 – 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exerting 25 – 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Exerting 10 – 20 pounds of force continually.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear in order to communicate with employees/customers as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, high noise, and working outdoors.
  • Must wear protective equipment while on the job.
  • Must be able to lift a 100-pound sack 4 ½ feet high. 
  • Must be able to climb a ladder regularly.
